MANCHESTER – An 86-year-old township resident was charged Monday in the murder of a Florida man.
Thomas Hatchett was charged with murder and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
The victim was identified as Igal Hedad, 71, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Manchester Police were called to a residence in Leisure Village West, where a man was found lying face down in the street.
The man was reportedly bleeding from his head, and had gunshot wounds in his back. Police also saw what appeared to be a bullet hole through the front door of a residence.
The county SWAT team was called in. When they entered the house, it was empty.
Authorities confirmed that Hatchett, who owned the home, also had a residence in Verona, New Jersey.
Verona Police were contacted. They located Hatchett and brought him in for questioning by Manchester Police and OCPO detectives. He was then arrested and charged, and is now in Ocean County Jail.
Authorities did not disclose how the men may have known each other.
