Driver Going Wrong Way On Route 195 Charged With DWI

HOWELL – The woman driving the wrong way on a major east-west interstate highway was finally stopped and arrested by authorities Monday.

Kara Miklas, 25, of Sewell (Gloucester County), New Jersey, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, eluding and “several motor vehicle violations,” according to Howell Police Lt. John Yurgel.

Around 6:50 p.m. July 1, Howell Police received a 911 call that a vehicle was traveling west in the eastbound lanes of Route 195 near Wall Township.

Howell Police Lt. Joseph Markulic kept vehicles at a safe distance while approaching Miklas’ vehicle. He attempted to stop her, but she evaded him.

Authorities, including Markulic and the Lakewood Fire Chief in his official vehicle with its lights on, were finally able to “box in” Miklas and stop her. Even after stopped, police said she was not compliant.

Wall Township Police and NJSP assisted.
