JOINT BASE MCGUIRE-DIX-LAKEHURST — Get ready for the Sounds of Freedom. Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst has released its April noise calendar, giving nearby residents a heads-up on expected training activity and sound levels across the month. The base’s official website publishes information and updates for the installation, while local coverage has also tracked the monthly noise calendars.
The April calendar shows mostly moderate-noise days tied to rotary wing aerial gunnery training. That activity can include .50 caliber weapons, rocket fire and rotary cannons. A smaller number of days are marked for high noise, including April 8 and April 12, when heavier crew-served weapons training and munitions activity may occur.
The new calendar follows what many residents described as a particularly noisy March, a stretch that drew concern and chatter on social media as people tried to figure out the source of the blasts. Some snarky posts reminded the locals that this is what happens when a military base is nearby.

The base’s message is familiar: the noise reflects mission-critical preparation. For residents frustrated by the rumble, the reminder is that these are, in the eyes of many supporters, the sounds of freedom — loud at times, but tied to the training and readiness of the troops who serve there.
Officials say sound levels can shift with weather conditions, including cloud cover, and training plans may change based on operational demands and weather. The base says it works to be a considerate neighbor and directs noise complaints to Public Affairs during duty hours.
