Cop Witnesses DWI Crash During Traffic Stop

  LAKEHURST – A Lakehurst police officer was in the middle of a traffic stop when he saw two vehicles collide, police said. The ensuing investigation led to drunk driving charges.

  Officer Robert Schroeck was conducting a motor vehicle stop in front of the Lucky 7 Deli in Lakehurst at around 10:20 p.m. on May 9, according to information provided by Lakehurst police.

  While speaking to the driver, he saw a black Nissan Rogue traveling east on Route 70. It struck the rear of another vehicle only a few hundred feet away from him.

  After checking on both drivers, he requested medical assistance. The driver whose vehicle was struck complained of neck pain. The driver of the Nissan was identified as Joy N. Allen, 26, of Manchester. Further investigation determined that she had been drinking.

  She was charged with Assault by Auto, Driving under the Influence, Reckless Driving,

Following too Closely, Possession of an Open Container of Alcohol in a Motor Vehicle and Consumption of Alcohol in a Motor Vehicle.

  Officer Schroeck was assisted by Officer Daniel Hourigan, the Lakehurst First Department and the Lakehurst First Aid Squad.
