JACKSON — A 22-year-old township man remains missing after he was last seen in a wooded area almost a week ago.

Mortimer “Morty” Wortman was reported missing on November 21 after he was last seen around 10:30 p.m. near the Collier Mills Wildlife Management Area, in the woods off High Bridge Road. Police say he is considered both missing and endangered.

Wortman is described as having light skin, dark brown hair and eyes, standing about 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing roughly 200 pounds. He has a nose piercing and multiple earrings in both ears. He was last seen wearing a black T-shirt, a burgundy hoodie and blue jeans.

According to Jackson Police Chief Matthew D. Kunz, both the township police and Ocean County Prosecutors Office are coordinating their efforts to find him.

Chief Kunz said “The matter remains under investigation, using every available investigative tool at our collective disposal.”

Officers have repeatedly returned to the area searching for clues, and police were again canvassing the woods.

Family and friends describe Wortman as a kind and unique young man who is deeply loved. A fundraiser has been launched to help allocate resources for search efforts or hire a private investigator to assist in bringing him home.

Anyone with information on Wortman’s whereabouts is urged to contact the Jackson Township Police Department at 732-928-1111 and press 0 to reach the on-duty dispatcher.
