JACKSON – The police department has been hard at work reducing crashes in the town, and for that they have been honored with an award.

The Jackson Township Police Department was recently awarded the “Crash Abatement Tactics” (C.A.T.) Grant through the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety. This grant award is given out to the department which has shown an overall decline of crashes and any related injuries to crashes throughout the town. This includes reducing major moving violations like speeding, tailgating, distracted driving offenses, as well as drunk or impaired drivers.

The money will be applied to the implementation of violations relating to drivers passing stopped school buses, and also New Jersey’s “MOVE OVER” law. This law is designed to keep police officers, first responders, tow operators and other highway workers safe from being hit by ongoing vehicles.

Along with the C.A.T. Grant, the department also engages in “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and the “Distracted Driving Crackdown” Grants.
