TOMS RIVER — An Ocean County grand jury has returned an indictment against a Jackson Township man in connection with the fatal shooting of a woman last year at a local apartment complex, authorities said.
Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced that Shaquille Green, 30, of Jackson, was indicted on charges of murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon. The charges stem from the death of Toraya Reid, 28, also of Jackson, on September 6, 2025.
Police were dispatched around 11 a.m. that day to the Paragon Apartment Complex on Larsen Road after receiving a 911 call reporting gunfire and an unresponsive woman in the roadway. Officers from the Jackson Township Police Department located a woman with multiple gunshot wounds near the complex’s exit. She was pronounced dead at the scene and later identified as Reid.
Authorities said officers also observed a man running along North New Prospect Road shortly after arriving. The individual, later identified as Green, was taken into custody without incident and brought to police headquarters for questioning.
A joint investigation conducted by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, the Jackson Township Police Department and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit determined that Green, who had been in a dating relationship with the victim, was responsible for the shooting, according to prosecutors.
Green was initially charged following the incident and has remained lodged in the Ocean County Jail since that time. He is being held pending trial.
Billhimer credited Supervising Assistant Prosecutor Christopher Heisler for presenting the case to the grand jury and praised the coordinated efforts of the investigative agencies and the Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office.
