Ocean County Man Charged In Meat Cleaver Incident

OCEAN COUNTY – A Jackson Township man is facing multiple criminal charges after police say he threatened a coworker with a meat cleaver during a dispute inside a Lakewood restaurant on Christmas Day.

According to the Lakewood Police Department, officers were called to the restaurant shortly after 2:35 p.m. for a reported disturbance in the kitchen area. Investigators said a verbal argument between employees escalated when one man allegedly picked up a meat cleaver and made threats toward a coworker.

Police said no one was injured during the incident.

The suspect, identified as Qing Zheng, was later located and arrested at his home without incident. He was transported to police headquarters for processing.

Zheng was charged with simple assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and making terroristic threats. He was subsequently lodged at the Ocean County Jail.

The investigation remains ongoing, police said.

Police did not identify the name of the restaurant.
