NEW EGYPT – A local man was charged with uploading child pornography to the Google Meet app after being referred “numerous” times by a state task force.

Richard Knight, 40, of New Egypt, was charged with Distribution of Child Pornography, and Possession of Child Pornography on June 9.

Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said that the investigation into Knight began in December of 2020 as a result of numerous referrals from the New Jersey State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

The Prosecutor’s Office High Tech Crime Unit tracked the uploads to a home in New Egypt. The home was searched, and two cell phones were seized. Knight was arrested at his job in Browns Mills.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and more charges might be in the future.

Prosecutor Billhimer commended the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office High Tech Crime Unit, Plumsted Township Police Department, New Jersey State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, and United States Homeland Security Investigations, for their collaborative assistance.

Charges are merely accusations until proven in a court of law.
