Man Struck By Car, Seriously Injured

  JACKSON – A 30-year old Jackson man sustained serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle in the area of North New Prospect Road and Hyson Road on April 3, police said.

Police responded to the area at approximately 2 p.m. for a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.

  The Jackson man was driving through the area when he stopped his vehicle and got out to retrieve a trash can that had blown into the street. On his way back to his vehicle, the man was struck by a 2001 Acura SUV. The driver, a 27-year old Freehold man, his passenger, and another motorist stopped to help the injured man and called 911.

  The pedestrian sustained multiple fractures and other serious injuries in the incident and was flown to a regional trauma center by MONOC medevac helicopter.

  Police reported that there is no indication that impairment or cell phone use played a role in the crash and the driver continues to cooperate with investigators.

  Jackson Police, members of the Traffic Safety Unit, personnel from the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department and the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, Fire District 3 Firefighters, EMS personnel, and MONOC paramedics responded to the scene.

  The investigation is being conducted by Jackson Officers Brad Reider and Joseph Candido, and Detective Anthony Carrington of the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.
