JACKSON – Jackson students are under a shelter in place precaution while Jackson Police continue to investigate a disturbance near the school on New Central Avenue.

The Lakewood Scoop was the first to report the story.

A message from the district stated: “Students and staff at McAuliffe Middle School and students involved in after-school activities or sports at Jackson Liberty High School have been asked to shelter in place while police respond to a matter at a private home near that area.”

Parents, take note: dismissal and late busses will depart as scheduled, however there will be an increased police presence.

The district updated the message at 3:45 p.m. stating: “Law enforcement is using our parking lot in their response. Students who were staying after school and needing to access their cars are being escorted to their cars by police. We are in communication with police. At this point we do not know what, if any, impact this will have on the McAuliffe Band Concert scheduled for this evening at Jackson Liberty High School.”

Police posted to social media to inform residents and parents about the matter, announcing they will be using the high school parking lot as a staging area only for emergency services. They also reported that several agencies are responding to the incident, which is isolated to a single residence on New Central Avenue.

Law enforcement is advising that anyone picking up students from Liberty High School should do so at the East Veterans Hwy entrance and the bus ramp.

“We are asking anyone everyone to please stay clear of the New Central Avenue and North Hope Chapel areas at this time as we are addressing this issue,” stated police to social media.

More details will be released when available, said police. For now, motorists are advised to avoid the area.
