JACKSON – Jackson Township Police recently held two traffic details called “MOVE OVER operation” to remind drivers to move into another lane safely or reduce their speed when approaching emergency vehicles with their lights on.

Jackson Police pulled over 105 violators on two dates, May 17 and June 6, on North County Line Road.

May 17 was the anniversary of the death of Manchester Township Police Officer Robert Tobias, who was struck and killed by a motorist on Route 70 in 1975.

June 6 was the anniversary of the death of New Jersey State Trooper Marc Castellano, who was killed in 2010 on Route 195 in Howell Township by a passing motorist.

Most violators on those two dates received warnings and educational handouts explaining the law. Summonses were issued for what Jackson Police called “more blatant violations.”

The Jackson Police Department thanked the Jackson Mills Fire Company, Fire District 4, and the Ocean County Road Department for their assistance with these details.
