JACKSON – Jackson Liberty’s Jazz Band came out on top in the first competition of the 2019 season!

The band traveled to Hamilton West High School on Feb. 22 to compete in the competition, where they won first place, best overall band, best trumpet section, best saxophone section, best overall improvisation, best soloist and outstanding musician award for Anthony Demateis.

The Jackson Liberty Jazz Band was the only group to receive these superior ratings!

While the band started off with a big win, there are still eight more competitions throughout the state this season. The band will also be performing at the historic Strand Theater this year.

If you want to see the group in action, the Jackson Liberty Jazz Band will host a jazz festival on April 13 in the Liberty High School auditorium from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the door.
