Hit And Run Driver Turns Herself In After Police Pursuit

JACKSON – A Manahawkin woman surrendered to police after an alleged hit and run crash on West County Line Road on Monday afternoon.

Police said 25-year-old Samantha Oliveira has been charged with obstruction, eluding and hindering apprehension. In addition, Oliveira faces motor vehicle summons for speeding, reckless driving along with multiple other violations.

The accident happened on October 8 around 4:25 p.m. on West County Line Road.

After being hit by a 2013 Hyundai, the driver of the other car began following the vehicle and called police.

Officer Cassie De La Torre located the vehicle traveling on East Commodore Boulevard and attempted to stop the Hyundai. The driver disregarded the officer and sped off.

The pursuit continued onto Cedar Swamp Road and I-195 west. The driver accelerated to speeds as high as 80 miles per hour.

Due to public safety concerns regarding the weather and traffic, the pursuit was called off.

Jackson Police say she turned herself in on Tuesday.
