FREEHOLD – Route 33 remains shut down as authorities investigate a fatal motorcycle accident that happened either late last night or early this morning.

Christopher Swendeman, a spokesman for the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, confirmed 35-year-old James J. Florek of Freehold was killed in the single-vehicle crash. The Howell Township Police Department had responded to the scene at 6:40 a.m.

Florek was on his Honda CBR when he lost control and crashed. He was pronounced at the scene.

The accident happened in the area of Route 33 east where the business spur connects with the bypass.

According to Chief Andrew Kudrick of the Howell Township Police Department, the initial investigation revealed the collision between the motorcyclist and the guardrail may have occurred between 5:30 p.m. yesterday and midnight last night as he did not show at his place of employment. The 2017 Honda CBR motorcycle he was operating went off the bypass and came to rest off of the eastbound lane of Rt.33 Business. He was discovered at sunrise.

The Howell Police as well as the Monmouth County Prosecutors Office Serious Collision Analysis Reconstruction Team (SCART) are investigating this incident.
