Howell Police Investigate Playground Fire

HOWELL – Police in Howell continue to probe what sparked a Sunday morning blaze on the Newbury School playground in the township.

According to a Facebook post from the Southard Fire Department, the fast-moving mulch fire started around 11:04 a.m. on Sunday, July 8th.

Photos from the scene posted on social media showed flames and smoke engulfing much of the playground equipment and smoke was visible for several miles.

The Southard Fire Department along with the Freewood Acres Fire Company were dispatched to the scene.

The Facebook post said “Engine 19-3-77 dropped a supply line and began extinguishing the blaze with foam.”

Chief Andrew Kudrick tells Jersey Shore Online that no one was injured. He confirmed this information through Facebook Messenger Sunday afternoon.
