BRICK – An accident during the evening rush closed a major stretch of road and sent one man to the hospital with multiple injuries.

Brick Township Police confirm the accident involving a Harley Davidson motorcycle and an SUV at the intersection of Route 88 and Jack Martin Boulevard happened around 5:42 p.m. Thursday.

According to Traffic Safety Officer Lieutenant Keith Donnelly, the motorcycle, driven by 57-year-old Christos Michael of Point Pleasant, was heading west on Route 88 towards the intersection of Jack Martin Boulevard.

In an SUV waiting to make a left onto Jack Martin was 75-year-old Burke Blackman of Brick and his passenger 74-year-old Marie McGinty also of Brick.

Police said that Blackman had the right of way to make a left when Michael apparently lost control of the motorcycle, colliding with the SUV.

Michael suffered head and chest injuries and was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center In Neptune via MONOC Paramedics. He’s listed in serious condition but police don’t believe the injuries sustained are life threatening.

Both Blackman and McGinty were unharmed in the crash.

The Brick Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit responded to the scene to investigate while all traffic had to be detoured for about an hour and a half.

Witnesses to the crash or anyone who could help the probe are urged to contact Patrolman Lampiasi at 732-262-1141.

Both Lampiasi and Lieutenant Keith Donnelly are leading the investigation.
