BRICK – An accident involving a car and a pedestrian during the evening rush closes a busy section of road and sends one man to the hospital with injuries.

Brick Township Police said the crash happened on Tuesday night around 6:04 p.m. on Brick Boulevard South between Duquesne Boulevard and North Lakeshore Drive.

Patrolman Keith Donnelly explained 52-year-old Elsa G. Romero of Toms River was traveling south on Brick Boulevard when a pedestrian wearing dark colored clothes entered the roadway trying to cross Brick Boulevard east to west.

Romero had the right of way and she didn’t see the man when he walked in front of her car. The vehicle struck the pedestrian on the right side front fender and mirror of the car.

Police identified the man as 32-year-old Samuel Sanchez of Brick Township. He fell to the ground, injuring his head and his hands.

Sanchez was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune by Brick Police EMS for an evaluation. His injuries are said to be non-life threatening.

Romero was not injured.

Traffic was detoured for about an hour and half during the investigation.

Both Patrolman Donnelly and Patrolman Lampiasi of the Traffic Safety Unit are involved with the probe.

Witnesses or anyone with information that can help the case are urged to call 732-262-1104.
