BROWNS MILLS – A fatal crash shut down traffic in both directions on Route 70 in Burlington County Monday night.

Matthew Ziegler, 41, of Brick, was killed in a head-on collision when another vehicle veered over the center line around 10 p.m. in the Browns Mills section of Pemberton Township.

Ziegler was driving his 2009 Mazda 3 sedan eastbound when a 2018 Toyota Highlander, driven by 63-year-old Ruthann Demarco-Williams of New Castle, Delaware, traveling west, smashed into the Mazda.

An eastbound traveling dump truck, behind Ziegler, attempted to swerve and avoid the crash, but ended up between the two vehicles and hit the front of the Toyota.

Ziegler was pronounced dead at the scene. Demarco-Williams was airlifted to Capital Health Regional Medical Center, in Trenton, with serious injuries.

The dump truck driver, 52-year-old Thomas Rekemeier, of Waretown, was uninjured.

All three drivers were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.
