TRENTON — An Ocean County man was sentenced to 14 years in federal prison for receiving child sexual abuse material and exploiting multiple minors, federal prosecutors said.
Daniel Nilla, 37, of Brick was sentenced December 2 to 168 months in prison by U.S. District Judge Michael A. Shipp in Trenton. He also was ordered to serve 10 years of supervised release following his prison term.
Nilla previously pleaded guilty to three counts of receipt of child pornography.
According to court records and statements made in court, Nilla communicated with at least five minor victims between December 2021 and April 2023 using a multimedia instant messaging application. Prosecutors said Nilla knew the victims were minors and directed them to send images and videos of themselves engaging in sexually explicit conduct, which he used for his own sexual gratification.
The investigation was conducted by the FBI, with assistance from the FBI’s Kansas City Division and the Edwardsville, Kansas Police Department.
The case was prosecuted as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide Department of Justice initiative aimed at combating the sexual exploitation and abuse of children. The government was represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney Matt Belgiovine of the Criminal Division in Trenton.
