LAKEWOOD — An early morning gas line explosion caused a fire at Second Street and Forest Avenue, officials said.

The Lakewood Scoop reported that the fire erupted just after 8 a.m. The reportedly two-alarm fire has forced an evacuation of a two-block radius in the area.

Officials were requesting aid from surrounding towns in containing the fire. New Jersey Natural Gas crews also responded within 15 minutes of the fire being reported.

It’s being reported that a truck struck a gas line.

As of 10 a.m., residents were still not allowed back to their homes.

There are no reported injuries at this time.

This is a developing story.
