
BERKELEY – A woman was airlifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center after being struck by a vehicle on Route 9 Tuesday morning, authorities said.
Police said patrol units were dispatched around 9:30 a.m. to the area of 170 Route 9 for a report of a pedestrian struck. An investigation determined that the woman had walked into traffic and was hit by a passing vehicle.
The impact pushed the pedestrian back into the shoulder of the roadway.
First Aid and RWJ medics responded and determined that her injuries required air transport to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune. She was flown from a nearby landing zone without incident.
The driver of the vehicle was evaluated at the scene and declined medical treatment.
The crash remains under investigation by the Berkeley Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Bureau.
