Gas Station Robbery, Suspect Arrested

BERKELEY – A Brick Township man remains jailed after allegedly robbing a gas station in Berkeley Township.

Berkeley Township Police Chief Karin DiMichele said the gas attendant and a Good Samaritan attempted to chase 28-year-old Ernest Cannon as he tried to flee from the scene of the crime. The incident happened Wednesday, November 14th around 7 p.m. at the Delta Gas Station located at 245 Route 9.

Police were called to the scene by a resident who reported seeing the gas attendant struggling with someone over money. No weapons were reported to have been used during the crime.

A perimeter search was conducted by Berkeley Police with help from the Ocean County Sheriffs Office Drone and the K-9 Unit.

After a few hours, police tracked the suspect’s vehicle to the Shady Oaks Apartments and found him hunched down in the passenger’s seat.

Police said Cannon was in possession of evidence from the crime scene as well as other contraband. He was arrested and charged with robbery, theft, resisting by flight and possession of a hypodermic needle.

Cannon was taken to the Ocean County Jail.
