BERKELEY – Berkeley Township rededicated Leiter Field and officially dedicated the Moorage Ave. Park as Leiter Baseball Park.

“It is indeed an honor and a privilege to be here today as we rededicate Leiter field and dedicate this beautiful park to the Leiter family,” said Mayor Carmen Amato, accompanied by the township committee.

For the past few months, the township has been working with Berkeley Little League and Al Leiter to transform Leiter Field into a state of the art baseball facility.

“This rededication was made possible by the continuing support of the The Leiter Family and the leadership of Berkeley Little League,” said Amato. “I congratulate all of you for your ongoing commitment to this project and your steadfast support of youth baseball in Berkeley Township.”

The Township provided architecture and engineering designs to the project, which will see additional safety bleachers and dugout benches in the near future.

“For many of you who are new and unaware, it was the Leiter Family’s initial $100,000 donation in the late 1990’s that enabled the Township and volunteers to build the original Leiter field. That donation eventually sparked the “renaissance” that you see here today that empowered everyone to work together to make this park, the state-of- the-art baseball facility it has become,” said Amato during the ceremony.

Amato thanked The Leiter family for never forgetting their roots, and for their true dedication to Berkeley Township Little League.
