POINT PLEASANT – Former American Idol contestant and Point Pleasant Beach resident Antonella Barba will remain jailed following her recent arrest for heroin distribution in Norfolk, Virginia.

Arrested on Oct. 11, she was charged with one count of possession of more than 100 grams of heroin with intent to distribute. Barba was arraigned on Monday, Oct. 15 and is being held at the Norfolk City Jail.

The Jersey Shore native is now facing up to 40 years in prison and fines up to $500,000.  Barba’s next court date is Oct. 22 for counsel determination.

While Barba’s arrest may come as a surprise, it is not her first encounter with the law. Back in 2007, during her time on Idol, she created controversy for posing in a wet t-shirt near the World War II Memorial in Washington D.C. In 2010, she was busted for shoplifting from an Urban Outfitters in New York City.

The 31-year old Barba was on the popular television show for its sixth season in 2007, making it to the final 16 contestants. A former resident of Point Pleasant Beach, her address is now listed as Los Angeles.
