PINE BEACH — Three young men helped residents escape a burning home late Tuesday night after a fire broke out on the second floor of a house on Station Avenue, officials said.
Firefighters from Station 38 were dispatched at 11:43 p.m. on May 5 to the 100 block of Station Avenue for a reported residential structure fire. When Chief 3800 arrived, heavy flames were showing from the front of the second floor, prompting a request for a full first-alarm assignment.
The alarm brought additional crews from Beachwood, Bayville and Manitou Park.
Engine 3801 was first to arrive and crews stretched a handline to knock down flames burning on the exterior of the second floor. Firefighters then moved inside and launched an aggressive interior attack, quickly bringing the main body of fire under control in the room where it started.
The second floor sustained heavy fire damage, while the rest of the home had significant smoke and water damage, officials said.
Before firefighters arrived, three young men passing through the area forced open the front door and helped make sure the occupants got out safely.
No injuries were reported.
The Ocean County Fire Marshal’s Office responded to determine the cause and origin of the fire. The incident remains under investigation.
