BERKELEY — Police and fire crews responded to a residential blaze early Friday in the Bayville section of Berkeley Township, where one person was hospitalized and a home sustained significant damage.

Authorities said the fire was reported in the early morning hours on April 10 at a residence along Anchorage Boulevard. Officers from the Berkeley Township Police Department arrived alongside multiple fire companies, including Bayville, Pinewald Pioneer and Manitou Park volunteer fire departments.

Emergency responders found the structure fully involved in flames upon arrival. All occupants, along with a family pet, were safely outside the home.

First responders evaluated the residents at the scene, where it was determined that one individual was experiencing a medical emergency. That person was transported to Community Medical Center and is listed in stable condition, officials said.

Firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control and extinguish it, but the residence suffered extensive fire and smoke damage.

An investigation conducted by the Berkeley Township Fire Prevention Department, the Ocean County Fire Marshal’s Office and the township’s Detective Bureau determined the fire originated in a spare room. Officials said the incident is considered accidental and not suspicious.

Investigators believe the use of electric space heaters may have contributed to the fire.

The investigation remains active, and authorities are asking the public to avoid the area.
