Woman Hit With Careless Driving After Crash

TOMS RIVER – An accident on Route 37 in Toms River bends a utility pole and causes a hazardous leak into the road.

Toms River Police Chief Mitch Little told Jersey Shore Online the crash occurred Saturday afternoon.

42-year-old Chris Widejko of Berkeley Township was traveling westbound on Route 37 approaching Clifton Avenue when she lost control of her car, causing her to veer to the right, smashing into a curb and knocking into a utility pole.

Chief Little said the force caused the pole to bend and leak transformer fluid on the ground.

Widejko did not appear to be intoxicated and there were no mechanical issues with the vehicle, Chief Little added.

Widejko refused medical attention at the scene and was issued summonses for careless driving, failing to maintain a lane and operating an unsafe vehicle due to bald tires.

Police believe speed may have been a factor in the accident.

Crews were on the scene for several hours.
