TOMS RIVER – A violent two-vehicle collision on Hooper Avenue claimed the lives of two people and left a child injured, authorities said.

Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said officers responded around 8:45 p.m. September 11 to the intersection of Hooper Avenue and Fischer Boulevard for reports of a serious crash.

Investigators determined a 2016 Chevrolet Equinox driven by a 46-year-old man crossed the grass median and struck a 2025 Toyota Rav4 driven by a 28-year-old woman. The Toyota rolled onto its side and came to rest in a wooded area.

The Toyota’s driver was pronounced dead at the scene. A front-seat passenger in the Chevrolet was taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River, where she also died. The Chevrolet’s driver and a four-year-old passenger were transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune and are listed in stable condition.

The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit-Vehicular Homicide Squad and Toms River Township Police Department are continuing the investigation. Billhimer thanked the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit for assisting at the scene.
