
Update: as of 7 p.m. on January 7, the traffic light has been repaired and the intersection has been reopened.
TOMS RIVER — Police and emergency crews were directing traffic Wednesday afternoon after a traffic signal was knocked down at the intersection of Route 37 and Hospital Drive.
The damaged signal caused disruptions at the busy intersection as officers manually controlled traffic during the evening rush hour. Motorists experienced delays in multiple directions while crews worked to keep traffic moving safely.
No injuries were immediately reported, and the cause of the damaged signal was not released.
Drivers were advised to use alternate routes if possible and allow extra travel time, as traffic was expected to worsen during peak commuting hours.
