TOMS RIVER – A township man was airlifted to a Jersey Shore trauma center after being thrown from his motorcycle in a crash on Thursday night.

Toms River Township Police Spokesperson Jillian Messina confirmed that 20-year-old Christian Osorio was riding his motorcycle north on Fischer Boulevard when he slammed into the side of a vehicle driven by 35-year-old Joseph Pichirallo of Toms River near Hazelwood Road.

Messina said the motorcycle hit the passenger side as Pichirallo was making a left turn into the Bellcrest Plaza. Pichirallo was not harmed in the incident.

Osorio suffered serious injuries and was flown to Jersey Shore UniversityMedical Center in Neptune.

At this time, police believe that speed may have been a cause of the crash and they don’t believe Osorio was under the influence at the time of the accident. He was also wearing a helmet, according to Messina.

The accident is being investigated by Traffic Safety Officer PJ Gambardella, and there are citations pending.
