BEACHWOOD — Police say a threat circulated on Snapchat targeting Toms River Intermediate South has been determined to be unfounded, though officers will maintain an increased presence at the school as a precaution.
Beachwood police said they were alerted late Tuesday to a message posted in a large student Snapchat group by an unidentified male. Multiple agencies, including the South Toms River Police Department and the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, launched an overnight investigation.
By early Wednesday, authorities concluded the threat lacked credibility. Investigators believe the message originated from someone living in Florida, police said, noting the matter remains under review.
While details of the threat were not released, officials said they are prioritizing student and staff safety. Police will remain at the school throughout the day out of an abundance of caution.
