TOMS RIVER — As rising living expenses strain household budgets across New Jersey, The Salvation Army Ocean County Citadel delivered Thanksgiving meals to 90 families this week, offering relief to residents preparing for the holiday.

Volunteers and local partners — including TD Bank, the Jersey Shore BlueClaws and Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield — helped package turkeys, produce, traditional fixings and pantry staples for families facing financial hardship.

Major Jeffery Bassett of the Ocean County Citadel said the assistance comes at a critical time.

“With the cost of food and essentials continuing to climb, many of our neighbors are struggling,” Bassett said. “Thanks to the generosity of our partners and volunteers, we’re able to provide comfort and hope during the holiday season.”

The Thanksgiving distribution is part of The Salvation Army’s broader year-round support network, which includes food pantries, meal programs, emergency aid and seasonal outreach. Nearly one in ten New Jersey households experiences food insecurity, according to the organization. Last year, the New Jersey Division provided more than 7,000 Thanksgiving meals statewide, and officials expect demand to grow again this season.
