TOMS RIVER – Police and other emergency units rescued a man by the Mathis and Tunney bridges this morning.

Ocean County Scanner News reported that police and other crews were responding to a possible bridge jumper in the early morning hours of July 5. The news site said it was a “combative” man east of the Mathis Bridge, and that emergency crews, including a boat, responded quickly.

Toms River Police did not release the name of the man who was taken into custody but said no one was harmed this morning.

Toms River Police Chief Mitch Little told Jersey Shore Online the situation was “a psychiatric issue with the gentleman. We were able to get him out of the water with the assistance of a fire department boat and take him for an evaluation. No injuries to anyone.”
