TOMS RIVER – With traffic deaths climbing across New Jersey, Ocean County law enforcement agencies are uniting under a high-visibility traffic safety campaign aimed at saving lives.
Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced that his office will join forces with the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office and every municipal police department in the county to participate in Goal: Zero, an initiative designed to cut down on reckless driving and prevent crashes.
As of September 22, state officials have recorded 401 roadway fatalities this year, including 45 in Ocean County.
“High-visibility enforcement is about saving lives, not writing tickets,” Billhimer said. “Every patrol, every stop, and every light we activate is a step toward Goal: Zero. Zero traffic deaths isn’t just a goal, it’s our shared responsibility.”
The first coordinated detail is scheduled for September 25 from 3 to 7 p.m., with officers focusing on heavily traveled roadways across the Jersey Shore. Enforcement operations will return on the last Thursday of each month from March through September.
The program was inspired by Holmdel Patrolman Matt Menosky, who launched the Goal: Zero campaign in 2024 with 36 municipalities. Its logo features bright green to symbolize safety and visibility, along with a black mourning band to honor victims of crashes.
