Justin Bonilla, 20 of South Toms River, was heading west on 37 when he saw Vellecco in the crosswalk and hit the brakes. He was unable to avoid the collision, however.

Police said that Bonilla did not appear to be speeding and that he had a green signal. The accident is being investigated by Toms River Police Officer Garrett Henshaw.
