TOMS RIVER – Prosecutors said that the years of state prison William Herflicker III must serve amounts to a life sentence for the 57-year-old. The Toms River resident was sentenced for sexual assaulting two minors over the course of five years.

Herflicker’s indictment was for crimes against the two children that took place between 2005 and 2010. As is often the case in crimes of this nature, it was not revealed how he knew his victims.

Judge Rochelle Gizinski sentenced him on Aug. 24 to 30 years in a New Jersey State Prison after he was found guilty of two counts of aggravated sexual assault. He must serve 85 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for parole, and he will be subject to Megan’s Law and parole supervision for life. Additionally, there were two counts of Sexual Assault, for which he was sentenced to 14 years total; two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, for which he was sentenced to 14 years total; and two counts of Criminal Sexual Contact, for which he was sentenced to three years total. The sentences on those counts will run concurrently.

“Everyone involved in this case did an outstanding job to ensure that justice was achieved,” stated Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer. “This defendant’s conviction and sentence to state prison for the next thirty years – practically a life sentence given his age – are especially rewarding when one considers who his victims were at the time of these horrendous crimes: young and innocent children. He literally robbed those kids of their youth and innocence, and as a consequence will pay a heavy price in this life and the next.”

“I would like to take this opportunity to commend the courage exhibited by the victims in this case. Their bravery in coming forward and cooperating with law enforcement over these last several years in order to bring Herflicker to justice cannot be over-emphasized.  It is truly awe-inspiring, and I am grateful for their heroism,” Billhimer said.

He acknowledged the efforts of Senior Assistant Prosecutor Mara Brater who tried the case on behalf of the State, as well as the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit, Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Victim Witness Advocacy Unit, and Toms River Township Police Department for their combined assistance which ultimately led to Herflicker’s conviction and lengthy state prison sentence.
