POINT PLEASANT – Two California residents have been sentenced to seven years in state prison for breaking into a borough home while a resident was inside, authorities said.
Jaheim Wilson, 24, and Oleyah Brown, 22, both of Stockton, California, previously pleaded guilty to burglary in connection with the Aug. 7, 2025, incident, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said.
Superior Court Judge Guy P. Ryan sentenced both defendants on Aug. 28. Their burglary sentences fall under New Jersey’s No Early Release Act, requiring them to serve at least 85% of the prison terms before becoming eligible for parole.
Wilson also received a concurrent five-year sentence for unlawful possession of a weapon, including 42 months without parole eligibility. Wilson and Brown entered their guilty pleas June 15.
Point Pleasant Borough police responded to a Barton Avenue home at about 1:38 p.m. after receiving a report of a home invasion and a gunshot. Officers discovered that the rear door had been forced open and property had been stolen.
An investigation determined that Wilson, who was carrying a handgun, and Brown kicked open the door while the resident was home, authorities said. After taking the resident’s belongings, Wilson fired one shot into the air before the pair fled.
Detectives located Wilson and Brown later that day in Toms River and arrested them without incident. Both remained held in the Ocean County Jail while the case was pending.
Supervising Assistant Prosecutor Mara Brater represented the state. The investigation involved the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit and Narcotics Strike Force, Point Pleasant Borough police and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit.
