TOMS RIVER – An adult man and his young son were reported missing after being gone for eight hours Sunday setting off a search by township police and several other local and state authorities. Both the man and the toddler were found safe.
Toms River Township Police Spokesperson Jillian Messina said officers were sent to 5th Avenue around 7:37 p.m. on November 14 for the report of the two missing people who left the house on foot with no cellphone.
A multi-agency search by Toms River Police Patrol and Detective Units, Toms River Fire Companies, and New Jersey State Police Aviation Unit, ended at 9:48 p.m. when the father and son were located safe in the area of Cattus Island.
Police thanked the Toms River Office of Emergency Management and Toms River CSO’s for responding to the search area in the event that medical attention, and/or long-term services were necessary.
The incident is under investigation and police are not releasing any further information at this time.
