Man Hit With DUI Charges Following Toms River Crash

TOMS RIVER – An Island Heights man was not harmed in an early morning accident on Route 37, but he faces a slew of driving citations including Driving Under The Influence.

Toms River Police Department Spokesperson Jillian Messina confirmed to Jersey Shore Online that 54-year-old Gordon Nelson was driving westbound on Route 37 on the morning of November 18 when he drifted into the right lane and hit a guardrail.

Police and emergency medical crews responded to the scene. Nelson failed a sobriety test and he was placed under arrest.

In addition to the DUI charges, Nelson was charged with Failure to Maintain Lane, Careless Driving and Reckless Driving.

In accordance with John’s Law, the vehicle was impounded.
