Gunfire In Toms River, Man Taken Into Custody

TOMS RIVER – There were some tense moments in the township on Sunday evening as gun shots were heard in a normally quiet neighborhood. The man responsible was ultimately picked up a short time later, according to authorities.

Ocean County Scanner News was the first to report the incident which led Toms River Police, Beachwood Police and Ocean County Sheriff’s Department Officers to get involved in the investigation and manhunt.

Toms River Police Department Spokesperson Jillian Messina, a man armed with a gun fired shots outside a home on Red Cedar Street before taking off in a GMC Sierra Pickup Truck. Scanner News reported the gun as an assault rifle.

The suspect was later apprehended outside his storage trailer on Mizzen Avenue in Beachwood.

Messina confirmed that no one was injured in the incident and they described the suspect as “an emotionally disturbed resident.”

The man was taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River for further evaluation. He has not been identified at this point and no word yet on what charges, if any, he will be facing.
