STAFFORD – Police are still piecing together an incident when a man might have jumped in front of two different vehicles.

A 39-year-old man from Manahawkin was a pedestrian who was struck, police said. He suffered injuries to the “lower extremities” and was listed in stable condition at the hospital.

On Dec. 16, at around 7 p.m., Maxwell Degennaro, 19, of Barnegat, was driving his 2008 Ford Escape west on Hilliard Boulevard in the area near Stafford Avenue.

He saw the pedestrian running in his lane toward his vehicle, he later reported to police. He drove into the opposite lane to avoid him. That’s when the pedestrian jumped onto the hood of Degennaro’s vehicle and rolled off of it.

Degennaro pulled over to call the police. While waiting, another driver pulled up in a 2007 Honda Pilot. Jeffrey Glines, 44, of Barnegat parked to offer assistance. He helped the injured pedestrian until police arrived.

Glines told police that a pedestrian had also jumped into his lane, and struck his vehicle.

Police said that no summonses have been issued and the incident is still under investigation.

“Out of respect for all of the involved parties, please be mindful of your social media comments,” police said.
