
STAFFORD — A Subaru Forester caught fire Monday after a two-vehicle crash on Route 72 near OceanFirst Bank, police said.
Stafford Township police said officers responded to the crash at about noon on June 29. The collision involved a Subaru Forester and a Chevrolet Suburban traveling east on Route 72.
According to a preliminary investigation, the Subaru struck the rear of the Chevrolet. After the impact, the Subaru caught fire and was quickly engulfed in flames.
The driver of the Subaru was able to get out safely before the vehicle was fully involved, police said. No injuries were reported among any of the occupants.
The Stafford Township Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire.
Route 72 eastbound was temporarily closed while emergency crews secured the area, and traffic was diverted onto McKinley Avenue.
The Subaru driver was issued a summons for careless driving, police said.
The crash was referred to the Stafford Township Police Department Traffic Safety Unit for further investigation.
