Serious Injuries In Multiple Vehicle Crash

STAFFORD – Township police are probing an accident involving three vehicles on Black Friday that sent two to a regional trauma center via medical chopper.

Authorities arrived on the scene of the crash shortly before 10:30 a.m. on Route 72 at Marsha Drive.

According to police, 61-year-old Brenda Evans of Manahawkin was behind the wheel of her Mazda Miata, stopped in the right lane at a red signal on Route 72 westbound at Marsha Drive. Her car was struck in the rear by 82-year-old Alois Krtil of Ship Bottom. He was driving a Nissan Altima.

After the impact, both vehicles struck a Honda CRV driven by 75-year-old Helen Licker of Lewis, Delaware. She had been stopped in the left lane of Route 72 west, also stopped at the red signal. 

Both Evans and Krtil sustained serio​us injuries from the collision and were transported by Hackensack Medical & Robert Wood Johnson medevac to Atlantic City Trauma Center for treatment.

Jersey Shore Online was in the area as the helicopter lifted off the landing pad outside Southern Ocean Medical Center.

Westbound traffic on Route 72 was diverted onto E. Bay Avenue for approximately 1 hour during the investigation.
