WARETOWN – The road will be reopened to northbound and southbound traffic on the Route 9 Bridge over Waretown Creek this week, New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) announced.
The long-awaited reopening will take place soon. Originally, the DOT alerted media outlets that the road would open on February 1. It seems as weather has delayed the process.
NJDOT contractor Earle Asphalt will remove the northbound detour and restore traffic to the newly constructed roadway on the east side of the bridge.
Both southbound and northbound traffic will then shift to the northbound lane and shoulder while a work zone is set up for the demolition and rehabilitation of the west side of the bridge, NJDOT officials stated. One lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction, but this shift will persist for the next six months.
The project to rebuild the Route 9 Bridge over Waretown Creek is a $3.1 million federally funded project. The road had been detoured since September 2018.
