STAFFORD – The Route 72 westbound shoulder will be closed starting 8 a.m. Friday, and remain closed until 4 p.m. as the NJDOT contractor prepares for drainage work needed for intersection and roadway improvements at East Road.

The shoulder will be closed between the Garden State Parkway and the Stafford Square Shopping Center “to create a work zone for drainage improvements and future culvert replacement work,” an NJDOT spokesman said.

The shoulder will be closed for the duration of the project. Motorists should prepare for daily lane closures.

The $8.6 million federally funded project will provide highway and signal intersection improvements that will east congestion and safety concerns.

Construction began in the fall and is expected to be completed in late 2019.

As always, weather and other factors play a role in how quickly the work is done. Motorists should check 511nj.org for updates.
