STAFFORD — A motor vehicle crash involving a propane truck forced the closure of Route 72 on Thursday as emergency crews responded to a reported minor leak and worked to secure the scene.
The collision occurred on January 29 on Route 72 West near Jennings Road. Officials said both drivers sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene.
Firefighters and other emergency personnel responded after a small propane leak was reported from the truck. As a precaution, a nearby business was evacuated while crews assessed the situation and ensured the area was safe.
Route 72 was shut down eastbound at Route 9 and westbound at Jennings Road, causing significant traffic disruptions. Authorities warned motorists to expect heavy delays not only on Route 72, but also on East Bay Avenue and surrounding connecting roadways.
Drivers were urged to avoid the area if possible as emergency crews continued their response and worked to reopen the roadway.
