The suspect, Kurt R. Tyhanic, 50, had been destroying the home, not taking his medication, and drinking, police said. He was holding a knife, threatening suicide by cop. This took place at the Cranberry Creek development in the afternoon of Dec. 21.

When police arrived, they found Tyhanic in the front door, naked, holding two knives, threatening “Come on, come get me!”

The Ocean County Regional SWAT Team and Crisis Negotiators, the Ocean County Prosecutors Office and Ocean County Sheriff’s Department were called in. SWAT officers were able to take the suspect into custody safely. He was treated at the Southern Ocean Medical Center and was later taken to the Ocean County Jail.
