STAFFORD — A pickup truck crash on the Route 72 Causeway Bridge caused heavy delays for drivers leaving Long Beach Island on Thursday, but police said the 18-year-old driver was not hurt.

Stafford Township Police Chief Russell Griffin confirmed to Jersey Shore Online that the crash involved a gray Ford F-150 driven by Joshua M. Silva of Manahawkin in the early afternoon.

Police said the truck swerved, struck a barrier and flipped onto its side, creating a dramatic scene on the busy bridge. The crash was reported as a single-vehicle accident.

The right lane was closed for about an hour while the disabled truck was removed from the roadway.

The vehicle was later towed from the scene.
