Pedestrian Woman Critical, Struck By Driver Arrested For DWI

 LACEY – An unidentified 67-year-old woman remains in serious condition at Jersey Shore University Medical Center from injuries sustained from a township man who struck her with his vehicle.

  The incident occurred at 5:41 p.m. on December 15. Lacey Police responded to Lacey Road and Holmes Avenue on a report that a vehicle struck a pedestrian.

  A preliminary investigation revealed a female was attempting to cross Lacey Road from south to north when she was struck in the eastbound lane by David Winkle, 40, of the Forked River section of the township who was driving a 2011 Jeep Patriot.

  Police are continuing to confirm the identity of the woman who was flown to the trauma center with serious bodily injuries.

  Upon transport she was alert but unable to supply a positive identification.

  Winkle was arrested for DWI and was transported to Community Medical Center in Toms River where a Blood Draw Search Warrant was later executed. Motor vehicle and criminal charges are pending.

  The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office FAST Team, Ocean County Sheriff’s Department CIU, MONOC Paramedics, Lacey Township First Aid Squad also responded to the incident according to a report released by Lacey Police Sgt. Robert Flynn.
